Not every firm takes the time to look beyond its caseload. At Hayhurst Law PLLC, the Hayhurst Scholarship is one of the ways we do exactly that. Each year, it gives us a chance to recognize a West Virginia student whose story reflects what we actually believe in. This year, we didn’t have to think twice. Ashley Yoho was the clear choice.

Meet the 2026 Recipient: Ashley Yoho

Ashley is pursuing her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at West Liberty University, where she’s also working as a Supervised Psychologist Student Intern. Her application stood out for a lot of reasons. Academic achievement, yes. But more than that, it was the honesty and strength behind her story that made an impression.

She said it best herself: “Without personal resilience, and a great deal of grit, I could have easily allowed my experienced trauma to define me. Instead, I made the conscious decision to let it fuel my determination.”

What the Scholarship Supports

Ashley’s using the funds toward the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology, a major milestone on the road to becoming a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Her goal is straightforward and meaningful: help people in her community find healing and stability through genuine, compassionate care. The scholarship was created to support students who show up with:

  • Real perseverance, not just on paper
  • A drive to serve others in ways that actually matter
  • Academic commitment that pairs with a larger sense of purpose
  • Leadership that goes beyond grades or credentials

Why This Matters to the Firm

Eric Hayhurst grew up in a small West Virginia town, raised by blue-collar parents. That background didn’t just shape who he is. It shaped why he became a lawyer and who he built this firm to serve.

As a Morgantown personal injury lawyer, Eric has spent his career fighting for people who’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. People who sometimes feel like the system isn’t built for them. The scholarship comes from that same place. It’s not a marketing exercise. It’s a genuine investment in people who are working toward something bigger than themselves.

Giving Back to West Virginia

Hayhurst Law PLLC handles cases across West Virginia and Pennsylvania, including automobile accidents, medical malpractice, and premises liability. But the firm’s relationship with its community doesn’t start and end with legal work. People who’ve lived through hardship and chosen to help others because of it? That’s something worth recognizing. Ashley’s path toward clinical psychology is a perfect example. The Morgantown personal injury lawyer and his team are genuinely proud to support her next chapter.

If you or someone close to you has been seriously hurt because of another party’s negligence, the team at Hayhurst Law PLLC is here to help you understand your options and figure out your next step.
